Seasons Review at ComputerGames.ro
Didn't you ever wonder why so many persons play Minesweeper or Solitaire? Is it because you can
find those in Windows or because they are too lazy so search for something else? We'll let aside
the ignorant. Who's not interested shouldn't be here anyway but if you've had it with the
aforementioned alternatives then you should read ahead because you might just find a game as
captivating as the other two. Should you smile and consider me crazy when I call Solitaire or
Minesweeper captivating, think again, as statistics don't lie. What do you think mostly of the
secretaries do? Or the pregnant wives suffocated with soap operas?
Seasons is a killer. It kills everything, except maybe
cellulite as it doesn't require any physical effort. Wanna kill time? Kill neurons?
Spend electric energy? No problem. Seasons can do it for you.
Basically, we're dealing with a very simple puzzle here. In a squared layout there are smaller
squares spread randomly and each one has a sign corresponding to one of the four seasons:
a snowflake for winter, a green leaf for spring, a sun for summer and a red par for autumn.
Why the pear is read I couldn't figure in the beginning, but after a while I realized it needed to
contrast with the other colors (white for snowflake, green for leaf and yellow for the sun).
Well, but what do you have to do next? Just click on the squares and they will flip if on the
horizontal or on the vertical there are at least two with the same sign. The catch is that when
it flips, the seasons are changed (the next season sign marks the square) and if you have a
3 squares match minimum they explode and so one explosion can lead to more.
There are two game modes. The most exciting is the time trial called Action Mode
where only your attention and reflexes counts. You must find very quickly the square which
produces an explosion and gives you the best score - as I said, if a line explodes, the squares
on the table are rearranged so more explosions may follow. When the layout empties, it is
refilled so the game is over only when you fail to find that lucky chip to turn and time expires.
If you find it then your time will be completely restored in the beginning of the game,
but after a while, when reaching superior levels, just a percentage will be restored and it's
getting smaller each time you advance. If you press the wrong chip you get a score penalty so
pay attention.
The other mode is called the Puzzle Mode and there is no time limit in order to let the
player to plan very carefully the next step. The main goal here is not to race against time but
to get a higher score. Unfortunately, it's not even possible to publish your score online so a
multiplayer mode is out of the question. If I think a little bit a small multiplayer match with
just 2 players would have been possible so it's a real loss it wasn't implemented. As this game
addresses mostly those who need to relax, the need for communication would have been satisfied
also.
Finally, Seasons can keep you company if you don't feel like
playing something more complicated. The lack of multiplayer could make you feel bad after a
while but if you consider this is not a game to kill hours but minutes, then it does a
pretty damn good job.
